What are the wellness trends for 2020?  Read on and find out.  Some may surprise you!

Health and well-being brand Gear Hungry has analysed Google Trend data in order to determine the booming wellness trends of 2020.  Research from the brand has revealed a rise in search interest for the likes of CBD skincare, Sound Bath healing, Virtual wellness and ‘travel for the soul’.

Wondering what Sound Bath healing is?  Gear Hungry have teamed up with their qualified wellness coach, Daniel Mason, who gives the need to knows of each of the wellness trends including what they are and why they are growing.

A 376% rise in CBD Skincare*

CBD is fast becoming the new buzzword ingredient in beauty.  Highstreet and premium brands are positioning CBD as a skincare routine essential.  And the likes of Kim Kardashian are throwing CBD themed baby showers.

There has been 376% rise in Google searches for CBD skincare confirming that its popularity is only set to grow further in 2020.

However, CBD is still veiled in mystery for some with much of the UK unsure of what the ingredient is, its role within skincare and even if it is legal.

What Is CBD?

‘CBD (cannabidiol) is essentially the non psycho active strain of cannabis or hemp,’ says Mason.  ‘CBD is sourced in a different way to the marijuana that people immediately think of as getting you high.  CBD does not contain THC and is therefore perfectly legal and is in no way psycho active’.

‘CBD holds great healing properties and acts as a great anti-inflammatory.  Many acne sufferers are turning to CBD as it calms the skin, eases redness and aids in cell renewal.  Also, if you are seeking an anti-aging ingredient, CBD is likely to fast become your go to ingredient for its antioxidant properties and its ability to reverse damage caused by free radicals’.

285% Rise in Sound Bath Healing*

As the wellness arena continues to boom, much of the UK is seeking alternative methods and treatments in order to combat anxiety and everyday stress.

Sound Bath healing has received a 285% rise from 2018 – 2019.  It is no longer regarded as new age hype but as a viable therapy to improve well-being.

A Sound Bath is a practice where participants ‘bathe’ in sounds that exercise various parts of the brain and senses. Many participants are aligning the therapy with their meditation and yoga practices.

‘People often think that sound baths are a little off the beaten track if they are seeking a therapy to calm the mind’ says Mason.  ‘However, Sound Baths ignite the alpha and theta brainwaves.  Alpha waves are known to increase creativity and suppress depression.  Theta brain waves occur mostly when we are asleep and are the brains doorway to learning and memory.  In my opinion, the popularity of sound baths is only set to rise and receive the same growth as the likes of Yoga and Mindfulness’.

242% Rise in Virtual Wellness*

The claim, ‘I do not have time for the gym’, will soon become a thing of the past as virtual wellness fast becomes the norm with a 242% rise in Google searches in the last 12 months alone.

The time poor are investing in virtual wellness products that bring the gym and wellness retreats into the home. Products that fall into this realm practice prescriptive workouts for the user that breaks down the 4th wall and brings the trainer to you.

‘With the rise of flexible working hours, people want their workout to be available at their beck and call and aligned with the flexibility of their everyday routines’ states Mason.  ‘The likes of interactive mirrors can be costly however, they provide flexibility in their offering as they showcase everything from Yoga, Boxing and Barre to cardio boot camps’.

‘Virtual wellness opens the gates for consistent wellness within the home as well as a medium to obtain a hit of endorphins 24/7’.

219% Rise in Breathing Apps*

The practice of Mindfulness has been steadily growing for some time.  However, the UK is turning to apps that solely focus on breathing.  The search term breathing apps has seen a 219% rise in the last year.

Studies have shown that practising just 25 minutes of breathing techniques can calm the mind.  It can also improve cognitive function and boost energy levels.

When we inhale, activity in the locus coeruleus area of the brain increases and when we exhale it decreases.  Consequently, our attention spans are dependent on our breathing.

Yoga teaches several breathing practices from Tigers Breath to Pranayama Breathing.  Such breathing techniques can quieten the brain, ignite concentration and increase positivity. Breathing techniques also increase our breathing capacity and release tension from the spine.

‘People are searching for a ‘quick fix’ and apps are fantastic for the time poor’.  Of course, it helps that most of us have our smartphones glued to our hand, so they are also super accessible.  It really is no surprise that the number of searches for breathing apps is increasing.  Consumers are seeking a hack that they can take on the go.

182 % Rise in Wellness Retreats*

For some, an Insta worthy sunsets and a booze cruise is no longer the criteria for a summer holiday.  Many of us are swapping after work drinks for soul cycle classes.  It’s no surprise that wellness retreats has seen a 182% rise in search volume.

The sure fire must-have holiday for 2020, wellness retreats aim to reset the mind, nurture your physical well-being and fuel the soul.  Partaking in activities such as Yoga and meditation, wellness retreats are no longer for celebs and the financial elite.  They are for those in search of the somewhat elusive work life balance.

All data is accurate at the time of publishing is analysed from January 2018 – September 2019.
