Self Limiting Beliefs.
The little voices in your head that hold you back from living the life you want and the life you deserve.
Thinking them is one thing. Actually verbalising them is another. I hear all sorts of variations of them in the Bringing Sparkle Back clinic.
They tend to go something like this…
“It’s not going to work”
“I can’t do this”
“I’m going to fail”
“They won’t like me”
“I won’t fit in”
“Good things don’t happen to people like me”
“I’m not good enough”
“This is it”
“I’m never going to be successful”
There are more, but these are just a sample of the ones I’ve heard this week in the clinic alone.
The key to ditching those sparkle zapping beliefs is to understand where they came from in the first place. Our belief systems are created from our experiences, and the meaning we attach to those experiences. That meaning becomes our story. It becomes the way we see the world.
But here’s the thing – it’s just our interpretation. It’s not fact. That belief system you’ve constructed and created can be changed and that’s what we focus on in therapy. Reprocessing events and experiences. Connecting the dots. Considering a different meaning. Creating a new mindset.
You can practise mindset shifting yourself.
Next time you catch yourself saying or thinking a sparkle zapping belief and talking yourself out of yet another potential opportunity, try replacing it with its positive opposite. So for example..
“It’s not going to work” becomes “it is going to work because I’m going to make it work”
“I can’t do this” becomes “I absolutely can do this and I WILL do this”
Stop sabotaging your life.
Mindset shifting is a conscious habit that you can learn to master and apply to your life and you’ll start seeing the changes and feeling the benefit of those changes.
