3 Key Pieces Of Advice Success Coaches Advocate

success

There is a wealth of success books out there and in turn, a wealth of success coaches all promising to hold the key to what you’re searching for.  It’s difficult to know which book to choose or which guru to listen to and ultimately which actions to take.  But thankfully there does seem to be a degree of commonality amongst them.

Having read a plethora of success books, here are 3 key pieces of advice success coaches advocate…

It’s All About Goals

Before your journey to success can begin you need to know your destination.  You don’t need to know exactly how to get there, you just need to know – clearly – where you want to end up.

Success coaches encourage you to work out your goals requesting you list them in a specific & measurable way.  For example, your goal may be ‘to be richer’.  That’s a good goal to have but it’s vague.  They prefer goals like this… ‘I would like to earn £1000 more per month by 31st December this year’.  It’s argued the more specific & measurable the goal, the better the focus and result.

“When you make a clear, committed decision about something you want, it’s analogous to picking up the phone and placing a to-go order with the cosmos.  That’s why as much as possible, you must strive to be decisive, clear, and specific.  Wishy-washy goals get wishy-washy results.” Marie Forleo, entrepreneur & founder of the acclaimed business-training programme – B-School.

Next, get those goals to the forefront of your mind daily.  Whether you list them on a piece of paper, create a ‘goals book’ or display them on a vision board, you’re subconsciously kick-starting your brain into working out how to achieve them.

You Have To Take Action!

It would be great to believe that you can positively think your way to success.  Whilst a positive mindset is an absolutely essential ingredient – if it’s not coupled with positive action – you’re not going to get as far.

Be prepared to operate out of your comfort zone, after all, this is where success coaches claim all growth happens.  Take leaps of faith without necessarily having all the finer-details ironed out.  It’s better to go for it and adjust your course as necessary than hold back until everything is perfect.

As Jen Sincero – bestselling author & success coach – puts it, Instead of wasting hours and days and years trying to figure out your perfect next move, just DO something already…Most answers reveal themselves through doing, not thinking.’

Reject Rejection

I’ve also heard this referred to as ‘refuse to be refused’, but in essence is about not taking ‘no’ personally or giving up.  As human beings, we’re not natural embracers of rejection.  It stings.  But in a success context, it’s something we need to learn to deal with and begin to view as a learning experience.

Jack Canfield, success coach & co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul© series, suggests remembering the following whenever you’re asking for anything: ‘SWSWSWSW’ which stands for, ‘some will, some won’t;  so what – someone’s waiting’.  Sometimes you’ll get a ‘yes’, other times ‘no’; but it doesn’t matter because someone is out there waiting for your ideas and what you have to offer.  Essentially, it’s a numbers game.

You can also use any ‘no’ to your advantage by seeking feedback.  Feedback is a valuable tool and shouldn’t be feared.  If anything, it will help you reach your goals more quickly.  It allows us to adapt, evolve & improve – so actively seek it when you can.
