6 Ways To Boost Your Daughter’s Confidence

daughters confidenceAs part of our series on Instagram about helping our daughters to build their confidence, we asked Kimberli Eke, Founder of The Girl Campaign, to share her thoughts.  The Girl Campaign run many different workshops though mostly for girls aged 8-15 years old.

Here are some of the tips they share on the workshops.

Self confidence is defined as ‘a feeling of trust in ones abilities, qualities and judgement’.

We know that having confidence in ones self can lead to growth, success, completing everyday tasks more easily and believing in you.

But how to get and keep that confidence can be pretty damn tricky.

Some tips that we focusing on during workshops are:

Re-Focus Your Thoughts…

Re-focus your thoughts about food and exercise. Use them to look after your body and reap the rewards of feeling good – not stressing about looking a certain way. Often when you feel healthy, it shines through.

The Social Media Snapshot!

Remember that social media is a snapshot and highlight reel of people’s lives. Try not to get stuck in a comparison trap, as what you are comparing to isn’t really real.

Doing What Makes You Happy

The term self-care can be thrown around A LOT but engaging in activities what make you feel happy is important. This can range from taking time out in your happy place to getting your nails done, writing your thoughts down or chatting to a friend on the phone. Self-care is essential and the thoughts around it need to value its importance.

Clothes And Style

Dress and style yourself in a way that makes you feel comfortable and happy. I cannot wear red lipstick, people comment it looks good but I feel ridiculous in it and my insecurity comes though. Your clothes and style should be individual to you.

Give Yourself Compliments

We often praise others and engage in self destructive self talk. Sometimes you have to fake it to you make it. Give yourself credit, look in the mirror and focus on the positives. Write down the things you like about the amazing person you are and when your feeling crappy, re-read your list. If you struggle with this, write down compliments from others that you have received.

Supporting Ourselves

Think about the advice that you give others who are struggling and try to practice this. Often we can be great at supporting others but not ourselves.

And A Final Word

The list could go on and on…but by focusing on these tips you will start to realise and better appreciate the amazing female that you are. You are strong, capable, amazing and beautiful, because you are you. Don’t waste your precious life thinking otherwise.
