Are you having one of those days where your confidence is feeling a little low? So, how do you go from this to feeling strong and powerful?
Here are our tips to give yourself an instant confidence boost. This could be used for anything from meeting your boss or motivating yourself at work. Or simply to feel good walking down your street.
Do Something That Triggers Those Feel Good Feelings
Want to feel more confident? A quick way to feel more confident is to change your state of mind. Try selecting some uplifting music to shift your mood. Another way to do this is to revisit a film or TV show that you have enjoyed where the main character exudes confidence or overcomes some difficult period in their life.
I like to use the final scene from Sex and City. Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) heads out of the girls’ favourite café and walks with pride down a New York street. She’s dressed in her fur coat and heels, feeling powerful to the background music of “You got the love” by Candi Staton playing.
Get Back To Nature
I know this is what a lot of self-help gurus will advise you, but it really works. Being in nature can help remind you of the bigger picture and what’s really important. Summer is here with the brighter warmer days and being outside can really recharge you.
Recently I did a hike up cave hill which is in Belfast, Northern Ireland and whilst it felt tough going up and I felt my heart pounding, when I finally got to the top and saw the view I knew it was so worth it.
Being away from your world for a while will help you remember just how small some of the things we worry about are and what an amazing world we have around us.
Try Something New
Engaging your brain by learning something new can help you feel invigorated and confident and alive. This could be anything like attending a workshop, signing up for a course, learning a new language or taking up a new hobby.
These new skills can help give you edge to try something different like applying for that promotion or saying no to something you don’t want to do.
Reach Out And Help Someone
Scientists have said that when we help other people we also benefit. Examples of this could be reaching out to an elderly neighbour, inviting a friend round for dinner or joining a charity.
Look After Yourself
This is so important as people often devote all their time and energy to work or their friends and family leaving little or no time or energy for themselves. Ideas include having an early night, as getting enough sleep works wonders for confidence.
Self-grooming can help boost your confidence or reading a book in a garden or park or having a long relaxing bath. It’s finding out what works for you.
Spend Some Time With A Friend…
Or family member who is positive and can boost you up. Think about someone you know who is always positive and arrange to spend some time or chat with them to raise your mood.
Reconnecting with people you have lost contact with can also boost your confidence and make you feel included and invigorated.
We all have times when we feel we are lacking in confidence but these practices can help you boost your confidence in no time.
It’s so important to have confidence in yourself as it impacts so many areas of your life. Read some of our other articles including 17 Ways To Boost Your Self-Esteem or How To Not Let Your Weaknesses Undermine Your Confidence.
