5 Ways To Energise Your Exercise

exercise

Exercise is one of those things in life that can be your best friend and your worst enemy. If you want to be able to keep it up long term and lead a healthy lifestyle, getting tired of it is the first step in the wrong direction.

Keeping things exciting really is the best way to reach your goals. The benefits that come from it are vital, so you need to get it right. The solution? Giving your exercise a revitalising refresh every once in a while!

Kickstart Your Exercise

To kickstart your exercise makeover, we’ve come up with these 5 ways to help make sure that your training stays fun so that you can really enjoy what you’re doing. There’s nothing worse than dreading your workout after all!

Variation

First and foremost, one of the best ways to make sure that you aren’t getting bored with exercise is to change things up. Often, too. No matter what your fitness goal is, it’s essential that you’re mixing things up and keeping your training fresh.

Not only is it the best way to make sure that you keep progressing, but you also add variety to your training and keep things interesting for yourself.  You’ll also find new things you enjoy and new challenges all the time!

There’s variety to variation too. It sounds confusing but stay with us. If you’re getting bored of the same old exercise, try some new ones out. Instead of your bicep curl, try out a chin up. Instead of running, row for a change. Easy changes are the best way to go.

To really stir things up though, your training style can change too. Using supersets or volume training is a great way to mix up your strength training or Using HIIT workouts for your cardio. Even crossing the two over can be an awesome way to get the most of what’s out there!

Training Buddy

Another of the most popular ways to make sure that you keep things fun for yourself is to train with a buddy! Whether it’s someone new to fitness and you’re showing them the ropes and developing your own expertise in the process, or learning for yourself and picking up new pointers. Even competing with each other is a great way to keep things interesting in the long run!

It doesn’t have to just be with one person either. Adding a social aspect to your training has a whole range of possibilities for you to explore. You can try out a class and meet new friends while pushing yourself to the limit, or even just make the most of the guidance that an instructor has to offer you.

You can use online forums too to get the most of your and others’ experiences and create a new friend group or social circle. Fitness goes beyond the gym!

Audio Input

If you’re training on your own or you prefer your own company, there are other routes that you can take to make sure that you aren’t getting bored too! Music is a great option so that you can do something that you love while doing something else that you maybe don’t love quite as much. It can also be an awesome way to motivate yourself with your favourite feel-good songs and shut off the distractions of the gym.

If music isn’t your thing, there’s another route you can take in this idea too. Rather than doing something like listening to music, you can give podcasts a try too. You may think they’re distracting or maybe just not your thing, but they have a lot of opportunities for you to make the most of your training. Learn educational training tips, or even mindful meditation to keep you in the zone. Whatever suits your needs!

Goal Setting

Looking more to longer-term solutions that you won’t get bored of, you can also make sure that you’re keeping things interesting with goal setting. It’s always a smart move to think of some good long-term goals for you to reach so that you always have the end in sight.

You can choose which kind of training is going to be best, as well as seeing yourself grow into the goals you have set and how you’re getting better and better as time goes on. You can compare yourself to your starting point and see what your amazing work has done!

Weekly or monthly goals are wise too. They’re easy to measure, and you get much quicker gratification. The more that you can see you’re making progress, the more you’ll enjoy your training. You can aim to do one more rep the next time you work out, or even go up a weight by the end of the month. Run the extra mile, swim the extra distance, whatever you need to do! Sometimes long-term goals can just seem a little too far away.

Take Time Off!

Finally, we have something that you shouldn’t do to make sure you’re not getting bored with the gym. Don’t overdo it. It’s so easy to get caught up in your training and make things too hard or dull for yourself.

Being too strict or impatient with your training, is one of the easiest ways to get bored with what you’re doing.  What out for signs that you’re getting a little tired of your training.  Why not try and take a week out and do some fun things with the time you’re taking off. If you aren’t enjoying your fitness routine, it is near impossible to keep it up.

On top of all that, overtraining is one of the easiest ways for you to put yourself into a plateau. Your progress will grind to a halt as you’re not giving yourself enough time to rest and recover, and that will just make things harder for you.

When you stop making so much progress, boredom is very quick to follow. You can also make yourself much likely to injure yourself.  And if you’re getting bored with your training, the last thing you need is an excuse to give it up.

Overall, the gym and your fitness in general needs to be something that you can enjoy. It won’t always be easy, but it shouldn’t be a chore. Try new things and find what works best for you personally. Everyone is different, after all. Your exercise is vital to a happy and healthy lifestyle in the long run, so just do what you can and keep pushing yourself!
