Networking….what reaction do you have when you hear that word?
We asked Shona Chambers, owner of Space at 61, to share her thoughts and tips on how to expand your network. Shona set herself a goal this year to meet 10 new people per week, called Project 10.
Here’s what she has to say.
5 Quick Tips:
- Have an open to everyone mindset. Don’t just limit networking to times you are on the clock for work. You could meet a new client in the line for coffee if only you talk to them.
- Have an objective. Are you networking because you want to meet more people to collaborate with? Is it because you want to learn from other like minded folk?
- Consider setting up your own networking group. I have done this. We meet every First Friday of the month & the event has taken off immediately with 30 guests per session
- If you do meet a person you’d like to connect with, follow up quickly either via email or sending a Linkedin request to show you value your meeting.
- Go to lots of networking events in your area, you won’t like them all, some will be at the wrong time for you, find your perfect event and go every month!
